Monkeys In Alas Kedaton |
Pura Alas Kedaton is a sacred Hindu temple relic from the ancient megalithic era on the island of Bali. Pura Alas Kedaton is located in the middle of monkey forest / monkey forest of Alas Kedaton, precisely in Kukuh Village, Marga Subdistrict, Tabanan Regency. Pura Dalem Kahyangan Kedaton is located about 35 kilometers from Denpasar City Bali.
Pura Alas Kedaton built by Mpu Kuturan or Mpu Rajakertha during the reign of King Sri Masula Masuli on the island of gods, according to Sading village inscription, Mengwi, Badung regency, said that King Sri Masula Masuli began to reign on the island of Bali in the year 1100 Saka (1178 AD) . The inscription uses the year Saka 1172 (1250 AD) which also states that King Sri Masula Masuli ruled on the island of Bali for 77 years, which means his government ends in Saka year 1177 or 1255 AD.
The position of Alas Kedaton temple faces to the west and has 4 gates as entrance and exit, this temple has a unique courtyard, on the inside / main position (in Bali called Offal or Main Mandala) lower than the central courtyard (in Bali called Jaba Or Madya Mandala), unlike other temples in Bali that typically have inner pages higher than the central courtyard.
In the Alas Kedaton temple there are also some sacred buildings (pelinggih), a Linga and also there are several statues, among them are:
- The statue of Durga Mahisasura Mardhani which has 8 hands and stands on an ox statue, on each of his right hand from top to bottom holding Camara (the fly disperser), Sara (arrow), Big knife, and holding the ox. On each of his left hand from top to bottom holds Kadga, Bow arrows, Trident, and Gadha.
- The statue of Dewa Ganesha sits on the flowers of Padma (lotus) and 2 dragons, on his right hand holding a rosary and on his left hand holding the ax and trunk, the Ganesha Statue has only one fang (ekadanta)

Pura Alas Kedaton is located in the middle of a forest inhabited by thousands of monkeys / monkeys and hundreds of big bats (bats). The monkeys in the Kedaton forest are very friendly and very close to the visitors as they always feed them with nuts and other snacks.
